PETALING JAYA - THE air pollutant index (API) reading for Malacca has increased from 51 to 91 in the past three days. Muar, in Johor, recorded an ‘unhealthy’ API reading of 162 according to the Department of Environment website, www.doe.gov.my, as of 5pm yesterday. (News Source: Straits Times - 03:17:20)
S’pore air quality drops
HAZE returned to Singapore on Tuesday, brought in by prevailing southwesterly winds carrying some smoke haze from the fires in Sumatra, said the National Environment Agency. The 24-hour PSI - a measure of the air quality - at 4pm was 56, in the ‘moderate’ range, and it hit 61 at 11 pm, said a statement from NEA. (News Source: Straits Times - 12:14:15)
Return of the haze
SMOKY haze, lingering in the air over the last few days, worsened on Tuesday. The rain which fell in many areas earlier on Tuesday did little to quell the haze which blew in after that. The National Environment Agency (NEA) reported yesterday that the 24-hour PSI air pollutant reading at 4 pm was 54, in the ‘moderate’ range. KUALA Lumpur’s Petronas Twin Towers shrouded in haze on Sunday evening as air quality in Malaysia dropped in recent days. The Department of Environment said there was no cause for concern. Director-general Rosnani Ibarahim said the air pollutant index (API) was below 100 and averaged at 60 throughout the country. Healthy air levels are supposed to be below 50.
